The Sculpture Summer School is a 24 hour, four part, weekly summer course that covers the traditional approach to sculpture as well as the techniques and tools employed by classical sculptors as well as contemporary sculptors who create using polymer clay.

Over the four weekly Thursday sessions you will learn all about the tools, processes, fundamental principles, anatomy, armature creation, how capture a likeness and most importantly how to develop your sculpture into a finsihed, striking piece to be displayed.

06/06/2024 Week 1: Armatures - Creating the skeleton & capturing a pose

Welcome! Upon arrival, we’ll take a look at how we can use multiple references in order to look around our subject and work on it from many angles all at once.We'll then look at how to use sculpting wire to capture thenpose and porportions of our figure, how to add mass and volume while producing a sturdy skeleton to serve as the base for your sculpture!

13/06/2024 Week 2: Working with polymer clay - basic forms, anatomy and stylisation

This week’s lesson will focus on handling polymer clay, a clean to use and fantastically versatile type of clay that we will be working with over the course. During this lesson we will be looking art how to work from simple to complex by adding form and looking at how to simplify anatomy to create a stylised figure sculpture.

20/06/2024 Week 3: Refinement - sculpting features, details and thinking in 3D

In this week’s lesson, we’ll look at fool proof methods for refining your sculpture with demos on everything from how to sculpt smaller details such as hair, noses, lips, ears, eyes, noses and more! By the end of the session, you will have a sculpture ready to fire and finalise in it's final pose.

27/06/2024 Week 4: Finishes - firing, painting, mounting and varnishing 

In the final lesson of the course, Liam will guide you through the process firing your sculpture, methods for painting with acrylics, how to mount to stand for display as well as varnihing options and how to apply. By the end of the session, you'll leave with a custom, one of kind sculpture made with your own two hands.

Throughout the course, you will recieve direct feedback as well as ongoing critiques and resources to help with the development of your sculpture, multiple demonstrations as well as notes to help you with your ongoing sculpture journey.
